Chris Brodbeck remembers well the day he got the call to play at Sarnia Bayfest.

“I got an early morning call from our manager,” said the lead singer of See Spot Run.  “All she said was ‘Bon Jovi’ and I knew… it was a good day.”

Like thousands of other bands, the Toronto-based group submitted their Bayfest application online, through a program called Sonicbids.

To their own disbelief, the guys made the cut, and will open for Bon Jovi on July 6, along with fellow Canadian rockets, Low Level Flight.

“I called our drummer to tell him and he nearly drove off the road,” said Brodbeck, who joined forces with Randy Bowen to form the band in Montreal.  Drummer Dave Fudge and guitarist Aaron Little completed the foursome.  “We’re stoked, to say the least.”

While the group — known well for their 1999 hit single “Weightless” — has played for much larger audiences, they’ve never shared the stage with a group this big.

“It’s going to be a thrill to be at this show,” said Brodbeck.  “I mean, who’s not a fan of Bon Jovi? We’re honoured.”

“Sarnia has always held a special place in our hearts so we’re thrilled to be returning this year,” said lead singer Chris Brodbeck.

The Toronto-based group — which includes guitarist Randy Bowen and drummer Dave Fudge and guitarist Aaron Little — was hand-picked by members of Stone Temple Pilots, through Sonicbids, an online booking agency that allows bands to submit an electronic application to play at Rogers Bayfest.

This summer will mark their second appearance at the summer music festival.

Last year, the band was selected as a special guest for Bon Jovi.

“We’re very excited to be adding See Spot Run to our Saturday lineup,” said Michele Stokley, Bayfest organizer.

“It is not often that we have the same band selected twice by one of the headlining acts; it shows the determination this band has at furthering their career.”

Originating out of Montreal, See Spot Run’s third album made Canadian recording history with its titled track “Weightless”, as the highest charted independent song on the rock chart.

The single, reached the number five spot on the All Canadian charts and the song translated “Décoller” reached the number one spot in Quebec.
